DistributionS Morocco, Algeria (Sashara), Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Western Sahara, N Mali, N Niger, N Chad, N Egypt (Baha El Din, 1994), Sudan (Jumhūriyyat)

Type locality: restricted by lectotype designation to Wargla [= Ouargla], Algeria by CROCHET et al. (2003).

TypesLectotype: BMNH 1946.8.4.31 (an adult male from Wargla, Algeria), designated by CROCHET et al. 2003; paralectotypes: BMNH 1946.8.30-32 (Wargla), BMNH 1946.9.3.75 (between the Wed Nça and El Alia), BMNH 1946.9.3.74 (El Wed, East of Tuggurt). The original type series might have included more specimens, including members of other species. See also Salvador 1982. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Medium-sized species with relatively long hindlegs. Strongly pectinate eyelids. Small dorsals in high number. 16 oblique longitudinal rows of ventrals. Intense pectination of toes. Lightly reticulate pattern on sides of body, absent on back (Salvador 1982: 101). 
CommentSubspecies: According to SALVADOR (1982) and CROCHET et al. (2003) the subspecies panousei falls into the variation range of the whole species.

Similar species: easy to confuse with A. scutellatus.

Distribution: not in Israel fide Shai Meiri (pers. comm. 6 Sep 2011) and BAha El Din 2007.
