Type locality: Shark Bay, W. A.  
Reproductionovovivparous. 
TypesHolotype: WAM R21366, adult male collected by Messrs W. and W. Poole in September 1963. Paratypes: (n=7) WAM R11140-41, R21364-65, R22419, R25608 (Shark Bay), R21367 (presumably Trigg, near Perth). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Distinguishable from the nominate race by its darker colour and
smaller size and by males having tuberculate dorsals and ventrals. (Smith 1974) 
CommentVenomous!

Synonymy after COGGER 1983. Kaiser et al. 2013 rejected the generic name Oceanius Wells 2007 and synonymized it with Aipysurus.

Habitat: marine. 
EtymologyNamed after the Poole brothers, professional fishermen who have collected many sea snakes in Shark Bay including the holotype and most of the paratypes of this subspecies.
