Type locality: 7 km E Guánica, 600 ft. elevation, Puerto Rico.

Similar species: A. caeca, A. bakeri. 
EtymologyNamed after the Greek adjective xeros (desert). The etymology was not given explicitly but he emphasized the “xeric” habitat of the species.
