Type locality: Arizona, Pima, north fork Alamo Canyon, Ajo Mts., ca. 30.6 km N international boundary, in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument.

EtymologyNamed after Greek xanthos = orange or yellow and Greek notos = back, in reference to its dorsal color pattern.
