|Diagnosis||Diagnosis (genus): Theobald (1868) defined the genus by these characters: scales smooth in 13 rows; loreal and preocular missing, both replaced by a very large prefrontal; round pupil and two rows of subcaudals (after Vogel et al. 2017).|
Original description (species): “C. RETICULATA, nobis, n. s. Vertical plate hexagonal, angulated to the front, and not half so large as the occipital : supra-orbital large and subtriangular. Thirteen rows of scales: scutae 136, 138 ; scutellæ 27, 28 pairs. Colour shining dull black, brilliant and iridescent below: minute yellowish-white specks on the sides of the mouth, throat, and along the sides of the body. In spirit the edges of the scales are seen to be of a deep black, imparting a reticulated appearance. The larger of two specimens measures 12 in., of which tail 28 in. From Asám. Mr. Robinson.” (Blyth 1855: 287)
