Type locality: "la montagne d'Ambre, Madagascar," province de Diégo Suarez.

TypesHolotype: MNHN-RA 1893.0212, a 167 mm specimen (Alluaud and Belly) 
Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Compsophis albiventris MOCQUARD 1894: 8 is the type species of the genus Compsophis MOCQUARD 1894.

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “albus, -a, -um” = white and “venter” = belly or stomach.
