DiagnosisOriginal diagnosis: “Eine große, robuste Rasse mit reduzierter Zeichnung. Unterscheidet sich vom geographisch benachbarten Cryptoblepharus bouton africanus (STERNFELD) durch bedeutendere Größe, durch eine breite, wenig pigmentierte mittlere Dorsalzone, durch die sehr erhebliche Reduktion der Parietal- und Temporal bänder, die eine hellbraune bis graubraune Färbung. haben; Supraciliarstreifen breit, doch nur wenig heller als die graue bis hellgrau braune Grundfarbe; Subocularstreifen und Maxillarband fehlen völlig. Schuppen in 24-26 Längsreihen. Beim Typus 5 Supralabialia vor dem Suboculare, sonst 4. Größe: 50 mm.” (Mertens 1928)
