DistributionIndonesia (Buru, Ambon, Haruku, Saparua, Seram and Kai = Kei Islands, Dullah Island, Langgur on Kai Kecil, Warka,
Banda Elat and Cape Pattinson on Kai Besar)

Type locality: Elat, Kei

intermedius: Type locality: Rana, Buru Island, Maluku Province, Indonesia.
Reproductionoviparous
TypesSyntypes: NMBA (= NHMB) 6203-06, ZMA.RENA 10836, ; Cotypes: MCZ R29162-63. Roux did not designate a holotype, but referred to 14 specimens from Elat, 4 specimens from Langgur, 3 specimens from Kei-Dulah, and 2 from Warka. Kramer (1979) listed NMBA 6203 as the holotype, but this is incorrect. The seven specimens listed are all from Elat. The remaining 7 Elat syntypes, and the 9 syntypes from other localities, have not yet been identified (Glenn Shea, pers. comm., Feb 2019).
Lectotype: ZMA.RENA 10972 [intermedius]
DiagnosisComparisons: “C. intermedius is not as distinctly striped as C. keiensis, particularly in lacking the prominent pale mid-lateral stripe of C. keiensis. The two taxa also differ in size (mean SVL, 42.4 versus 38.4 mm), midbody scale rows (modally 26 versus 22), fourth toe supradigital scales (modally 18 versus 15), paravertebral scale width (mean 4.5 versus 3.6% of SVL) and though not statistically significant, number of paravertebral scales (modally 46 versus 50)” (HORNER 2007).
CommentSynonymy: Mertens (1964) considered C. intermedius a synonym of C. keiensis, simply stating that he could not separate the two “races”. Although HORNER (2007) examined only 2 specimens he supports the recognition of C. intermedius.
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
