Type locality: road between Ilam town and Pawakhola village, 1200-1300 m elevation), Ilam distr. Mecha Prov., E Nepal (Ilam: 26°54'54''N, 87°55'48''E; Pawakhola: 26°58'33''N, 87°54'39''E).  
TypesHolotype: MHNG 2590.35, adult male; paratype: ZISP 20685 
DiagnosisDiagnosis. A medium-sized species of Gonydactylus with an adult body size up to 70-72 mm in SVL; no preanal groove; femoral pores and enlarged femoral scales absent; preanal pores present; dorsal surface of the body with fine granules arranged into irregular longitudinal rows; scale rows between the distinct ventrolateral folds 38-39; tail not segmented; transversely widened subcaudal scales ab sent; dark irregular spots on the dorsum present; tail longer than snout-vent length, the end-limbs not reaching the axilla (Darevsky et al. 1997). 
CommentSynonymy: Gonydactylus KUHL & VAN HASSELT 1822 is a nomen nudum. 
EtymologyNamed after Markus Comba (b.1956), a Swiss antiquarian book-seller and book-restorer, who is also a naturalist. He supported several expeditions to Central Asia and to Nepal.
