DistributionBrazil (south of Amazon to C Brazil and coastal Bahia, Pará [HR 34: 388], Amapá, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, S Ceará, Piauí, Sergipe), Colombia (Lomalinda), south to Bolivia (Buena Vista), Peru, Ecuador

Type locality: Brazil.

dyticus: western Amazon basin, from Lomalinda, Colombia, south to Buenavista, Bolivia, and east to Porto Velho, Brazil; Type locality: Peru, Loreto, Monte Carmelo (= Raquena).

TypesSyntypes: ZSM, MHNN, MHNG; 1 or 2 questionable syntype(s) in NMW that appear to be Liophis cobella (R. Gemel, pers. comm., 12 June 2018). 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Differs from L. cobella by having a smaller number of ventral bands (x = 32.7). It is distinguished from Liophis frenata, L. trebbaui, L. ingeri, and L. torrenicola by possessing less than 168 ventral scales and from Liophis breviceps by having usually 8 supralabials and more than 16 maxillary teeth.
