Type locality: “India orientali”, probably from Tranquebar (= Tarangambadi, 11°01’N; 79°53’E, Mayavaram Taluk, Tanjore District, Tamil Nadu State, SE India), (BAUER 1998).

Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy partly after SMITH 1935. Eutropis rubriventris has been synonymized with E. multifasciata (Boulenger, 1890), E. carinata (Smith, 1935) and E. macularia (Smith, 1935; in part). Batuwita et al. 2020 tentatively recognize E. rubriventris as valid species based on published descriptions. It’s not clear how many specimens of rubriventris they examined although they do show 2 specimens that are “presumably Eutropis rubriventris”. Hence we consider the status of rubriventris as unresolved and leave it in the synonymy of carinata for the time being.

Subspecies: Eutropis carinata lankae (DERANIYAGALA 1953) has been elevated to full species status by Batuwita et al. 2020.

Distribution: possibly in Bhutan (Lenz 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin “carinatus” = keeled (like a ship).
