Type locality: 7 km NW of Rugno Well (± 4° N, 47 °E), about 80 km SE of El Bur on the road to El Dere, Mudugh Province, Somalia.

TypesHolotype: DNMNH (= TM) 26803, male; paratype: DNMNH (= TM) 26799, female 
DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS (genus and species). Lygosoma miopus can be distinguished from all other skinks by the following two characters in combination: eye vestigial and covered by an undifferentiated ocular scale; limbs present (rear limbs only, didactyl). 
CommentType Species: Lygosoma miopus GREER & HAACKE 1982 is the type species of the genus Haackgreerius Lanza 1983.

Synonymy: Pape 2017 proposed to place Haackgreerius in the synonymy of Mochlus.

Abundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024. 
EtymologyThe name miopus comes from the Greek word for near-sighted (myopus) and refers to the impaired vision implied by the vestigial eye sunken beneath the undifferentiated ocular scale.

The genus was named after Wulf D. Haacke (1936-2021) and Allen E. Greer, South African and Australian herpetologists. See Bates et al. 2022 for an obituary and bibliography of Wulf Haacke.
