Type locality: Pangnamdim (27° 42’ N, 97° 54’ E), and Aliwang, Taron Valley (27° 42’ N, 98° 08’ E), places north-east of Fort Hertz, Upper Burma.  
TypesHolotype: BMNH 1940.6.1.93, male 
CommentThe status of Amphiesma taronensis remains unclear; the IUCN as well as the CalAcademy Myanmar websites list it as valid species without further details. However, Guo et al. 2014 in their revision do not mention this species. 
EtymologyNamed after Brigadier Francis Esmond Wingate Venning (1882-1970) wwho served in the Indian army (1902-1933) and was an ornithologist and zoologist.
