Type locality: Anno Bom Island.

TypesSyntypes: NMW (= NHMW) 17800; MB (Museu Bocage), lost in fire 1978 
Diagnosis 
CommentAbundance: only known from its original description (Meiri et al. 2017). This is one of the species called 'lost' and 'rediscovered' by Lindken et al. 2024.

EtymologyNamed after Colonel Francesco Newton (1864-1909), a Portuguese botanist who collected in Sao Tome (1888) and Timor (1896).
