Diagnosis 
CommentPicture in Draco 13 (4): 93 (2003).

Type species: Emys spinosa GRAY 1831 is the type species of the genus Heosemys STEJNEGER 1902: 238.

Karyotype: DeSmet (1978) reported that the 2n chromosome number is 52 (13 pairs each of macro- and microchromosomes).
