Diagnosis 
CommentType species: Platydactylus duvaucelii DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1836 is the type species of the genus Hoplodactylus FITZINGER 1843.

Caudal autotomy: Bauer & Russell surveyed autotomy in carphodactylid geckos, including Hoplodactylus. 
EtymologyNamed after Alfred Duvaucel (1792-1824), a French naturalist who explored India. He was the son, from her first marriage, of Mme. Cuvier.
