DistributionMexico (SE Chihuahua, NE Durango, W Coahuila)

Type locality: 8 km from Ceballos, in Lago de los Palomas, Durango, Mexico.  
Reproduction 
TypesHolotype: UF 16180 (Florida State Museum of Natural History, Gainesville), collected 3 November 1963 by Walter Auffenberg. ParatypeSynonymy: TNHC 30524 and 30525 (juveniles) 
Diagnosis 
CommentSERB et al. (2001) suggested to elevate K. f. arizonense and K. f. durangoense to full “phylogenetic” species status.

Habitat: freshwater (swamps, quiet rivers) 
EtymologyNamed after the type locality.
