alticoronatus: Yucatan. Type locality: “Yucatan, near Merida”.

mccoyi: S Veracruz. Type locality: “El Acuyal, municipality of Catemaco, Veracruz, México”.

Holotype: USNM 12283, a subadult male, collected by A. Schott, possibly about March 1865 [alticoronatus]
Holotype: CAR-EBTT (= IBH-LT = UNAM-LT) 1326 (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Estación de Biología Tropical “Los Tuxtlas”), an adult male, collected by G. Pérez-Higareda, 10 October 1981 [mccoyi] 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A. Anterior dorsal head scales large and regular, consisting of paired or both paired and azygous scales; posterior edge of head with a projecting series of enlarged, flattened, conical scales (Fig. 4); body scales of middorsal row much enlarged and pointed, forming a serrate dorsal crest (McCoy 1968). 
CommentDistribution: erroneously reported by Smith & Laufe 1945 from “Guanajuato: Huasteca Potosina” which is actually not in Guanajuato but in San Luis Potosí and neighboring states (V. Mata-Silva, pers. comm. 26 March 2018). 
EtymologyThe specific epithet is derived from the Latin words serratus, meaning "toothed like a saw," in reference to the serrated posterior edge of the head casque (Lemos-Espinal & Dixon 2013).
