Diagnosis | DIAGNOSIS (loxogrammus). is subspecies is characterized by a darker grayish-brown dorsal ground color with a “rather coppery sheen,” speckled and streaked dorsally (only occasionally with indications of a brown middorsal streak comprising con uent spots), and marked white spotting on the sides of the neck (Barbour and Shreve 1935, Powell 2018). |

Etymology | Although not stated by Cope (1887), the specific epithet presumably is derived from the Greek loxos (= slanting) and gramma (= letter or mark), possibly an allusion to the black diagonal lines on the backs of males. |
