Type locality: “Clarion Island, Revilla Gigedo group, west coast of Mexico”  
Reproductionoviparous 
TypesHolotype: USNM 24390, Collected by: A. W. Anthony; Collection Date: April 1897 (according to Stejneger 1901)
Paratypes: (n=12) same information as holotype; 4 adult males USNM 24382, 24384, 24392, 24394; 7 adult female USNM 24385-89, 24391, 24393; 1 young 24383. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Scales in 17 rows; ventrals, 186-204; caudals, 97-112; frontal, at a line between centers of eyes, much narrower than supraocular; supralabials 8, fourth and fifth entering eye; a subocular; interparietal suture much shorter than distance from tip of snout to frontal; color above walnut brown, more or less uniform, and with scattered black spots. (Stejneger 1901)

EtymologyNamed after Alfred Webster Anthony (1865-1939), American collector, conservationist, ornithologist, and naturalist.
