Type locality: "Richards Bay, Zululand," restricted by Broadley (1981) to "Lake St. Lucia estuary, KwaZulu," Republic of South Africa.

CommentThe validity of the Malagasy and Seychellois subspecies of P. castanoides is doubtful fide FRITZ et al. (2010).
