Type locality: Near Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.  
TypesHolotype: FMNH 32005 (originally EHT-HMS 4866), collected 4 September 1935 by E. H. Taylor and H. M. Smith. 
CommentDistribution: Not listed for Guatemala by KÖHLER (2000). 
EtymologyThe Latin carina, "keel," and -atus, "pertaining to," refer to the strongly keeled head scales.
