Type locality: Cabo Cruz, Granma Province, Cuba.

TypesHolotype: MCZ 8510. 
DiagnosisDESCRIPTION: Size moderate (SVL in females to 30 mm); dorsals small, granular to juxtaposed, swollen, cycloid, slightly imbricate, very weakly keeled, axilla to groin 53~2; no area of middorsal granules or granular scales; ventrals smooth, imbricate, axilla to groin 34-44; dorsal caudal scales flat-lying, ventral caudal scales flat-lying, apparently not enlarged midventrally; snout blunt, not depressed or decurved; snout scales small, flat, juxtaposed; 2 postnasals; 1-2 internasals; upper labials to mideye 4; gular scales smooth; chest scales smooth; midbody scales 80-88; escutcheon unknown. Sexual dichromatism unknown; dorsum (female as preserved) crossbanded, the dark bands not obviously associated as edges of pale-centered crossbands (but doubtless the case); apparently a pale, nuchal crossband bordered anteriorly and posteriorly by dark edges; a dark band at forelimb insertion; 4 posterior dark bands (all probably representing the dark edges of 3 pale-centered crossbands); head pattern diffuse, without a dark central snout line; a pair of dark canthal lines; pale remnants of diagonal line from eye toward angle of jaws; a vague occipital crossband (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 489). 
CommentKLUGE 1993 lists epizemius as valid species and docimus as synonym. RÖSLER 2000 lists epizemius but not docimus.
