Distribution | Papua New Guinea (Madang Province) Type locality: From an area Pöch (1908) called Monumbo, the hinterland of Potsdamhafen (ca. 4.2280°S, 144.9333°E fide Kaiser et al. 2018). |
Reproduction | |
Types | Holotype: NMW 23406, an adult female, collected by Rudolf Pöch between 28 July and 25 November 1904. |
Diagnosis | Stegonotus poechi has a ventral count near 200 and, due to the broken tail, we are unable to make any statements regarding its subcaudal count or relative tail length. It possesses 19-19-17 dorsals, which is a unique count in the genus Stegonotus and similar to the count featured in some individuals of S. admiraltiensis and S. iridis (17-19-15; see below). A second unique characteristic is SLE = 4+5+6, which we have not seen as either a species-level characteristic or an aberrant count in the specimens we have examined. This high value of SLE is juxtaposed by the lower value of ILG = 4, in combination with a relatively high IL count (10) (Kaiser et al. 2018: 50). Comparison: For a comprehensive comparison of species, especially to the new species Stegonotus ayamaru, see that entry and Kaiser et al. 2019. |
Comment | Status unknown. Known from only a single specimen. |
Etymology | Named after Rudolf Pöch, the collector of the holotype. |
