Type locality: 10°20’N 42°50’E, 3000 feet elevation, Ethiopia-Somali border

DiagnosisDescription. Snout longer than the distance between the eye and the ear-opening; rostral broader than high, with median cleft above; granules on head keeled; nostril between rostral, first labial and 2 nasals; upper labials 7; lower labials 6; mental triangular; a pair of large postmentals in contact on the median line, adjacent chin-shields much smaller and widely separated and in contact with the first and second lower labials; no other enlarged chin-shields distinguishable as such. Back, limbs and belly covered with large strongly keeled scales, of which 4 of the largest dorsals equal the distance between nostril and eye; midbody scale-rows 35-41; limbs moderate, the adpressed hind limb reaching the elbow; subdigital lamellae tricarinate.

Color. Above, gray brown; a dark brown streak from nostril through eye to above shoulder; back with a few darker flecks; tail with darker and lighter crossbars. Below, whitish, with a very few, small dark dots (Loveridge 1947: 56). 
CommentDistribution: Records of T. somalicus for Egypt (BAHA EL DIN 1998) are based on specimens now referred to another species, Tropiocolotes bisharicus (BAHA EL DIN, 2001). See map in Machado et al. 2020 (Fig. 1).
