CommentSynonymy: preliminary; note that this species used to be called Typhlops polygrammicus (e.g. by WALLACH et al. 2014: 40) until HEDGES et al. 2014 split it off from what is now called Anilios polygrammicus. In other words, Anilios torresianus are the Australian and Papuan populations of the former Typhlops polygrammicus. The Lesser Sunda populations are now called Sundatyphlops polygrammicus. 
EtymologyPresumably named after the type locality (Torres Strait), with the Latin suffix -anus (belonging to). (G. Shea, pers. comm., 9 Feb 2024)
