Type locality: Heights of the Cordillera Occidental between the towns of Frontino and Dabeiba, rio Amparrado, on the trail between Pegadorcito and Amparrado, Department of Antioquia, Colombia.

Diagnosis 
CommentSpecies group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012)

Abundance: only known from the type locality (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin vicarius, substitute; supplying the place of someone/something. [“...it appeared to be related to Anolis granuliceps ... As the allopatric representative of the latter species it may be known as Anolis vicarius...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
