DiagnosisDiagnosis: A subspecies of B. imbricata with 16 longitudinal and 39-42 transverse rows of dorsals; one loreal, contacting one or two supralabials; three or four lateral and five medial supraoculars; two, three or four superciliaries; contact of anterior superciliary with loreal less than that of first medial supraocular; middle eight rows of dorsal scales sharply keeled; dorsal coloration of males usually similar to that of B. i. imbricata, that of females with or without dark brown to black cross bars like those in female B. i. imbricata; color of venter variable, cream to light tan.. The single specimen of Barisia jonesi analyzed by Bryson et al. 2011 nests within B. imbricata, so that it is likely a synonym of B. imbricata. See Bryson et al. 2011 for a discussion (these authors do not make explicit taxonomic recommendations though). 
EtymologyNamed “in honor of Dr. Richard E. Jones, a comparative reproductive biologist in whose laboratory our study has been carried out and who has been largely responsible for the successful establishment of a highly productive center of modern herpetological study at the University of Colorado”.
