Distribution: see map in Del Vechio et al. 2021: 2426 (Fig. 6). Not in Colombia fide Bernal (2025). Populations from north of the Amazon river have been assigned to a new species, B. oligobalius. 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Vital Brazil Mineiro da Campanha, founder and former director of the Instituto (Seroterápico) de Butantan, NOT the species’ distribution in Brazil.
