Type locality: Cerro Guanay, alto Río Paraguaza, Estado Bolívar, Venezuela (05° 55’ N, 66° 23’ W), 1650 m elevation.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: Prionodactylus nigroventris differs from P. argulus (peters) in having a divided nasal (single in P. argulus); from P. dichrus Uzzell and P. vertebralis (O'Shaughnessy) by having the loreal in contact with the supralabials; from P. eigenmanni Griffin for the white upper lip, and eight longitudinal rows of ventrals; from P. manicatus manicatus (O'Shaughnessy) in having 14 to 16 subdigital lamellae on the fourth finger of the hand and 21 to 23 subdigital lamellae on the fourth toe of the foot; from P. manicatus bolivianus Werner in having 24 to 25 total femoral pores; and, from P. phelpsorum Lancini for the dark black venter in adult males (orange in P. phelpsorum) and 6 to 9 rows of temporals between the middle postocular and the scales bordering the ear opening.
