DiagnosisDiagnosis: Diplodactylus squarrosus is unique within the genus in possessing a rectangular rostral shield, more than two and one-half times broader than deep, and greatly enlarged conical mid-dorsal body scales (Fig. 1). (Kluge 1962)

EtymologyNamed after a Neo-Latin word for “rough with projecting scale-like processes”, in allusion to the large dorsal granules (Storr 1990: 41).
