CommentDistribution: The only record from Brazil is from the city of Rio Grande (Marques-Quintela et al. 2006) but it is probably another taxon (H. Caldeira-Costa, pers. comm., 5 April 2016). Populations of O. vertebralis in Brazil were described as O. enso (Entiauspe-Neto et al., 2017), hence the species does not occur in Brazil (Costa et al. 2026). The type locality was originally given as “Southern Brazil and Uruguay” but needs to be restricted to Uruguay (not done as far as we know). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin vertebralis, pertaining to vertebrae or vertebral column. (Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., April 2024)
