| Etymology | The specific epithet is a word in Quechua that refers to stone towers or tombs erected by pre- Incan inhabitants of Peru and Bolivia. The chullpas were very common in the pre-Incan Chachapoyas culture that populated the Amazonas, San Martín and La Libertad departments in northern Peru. Chullpas are preserved on the cliffs of Los Cóndores lagoon and Los Chilchos valley. The specific name chullpa refers to the cultural legacy of the Chachapoyas culture present in the localities where this species was collected. |
