| Etymology | The specific epithetgavinwhiteiis a noun in the genitive case and is a patronym for Gavin White, ayoung amphibian and reptile enthusiast that together with his family, support the herpetological research of the lastremnants of cloud forests in the Andes of northern Peru, through the nonprofit organization Rainforest Partnership, headquartered in Austin, Texas, USA. The montane ecosystems in northern Peru host several recently described andundescribed species of amphibian and reptiles severely threatened by human activities such as agriculture, cattleranching and mining. Gavin White’s family is sponsoring the name of this species as a first step to bring attentionto and to conserve a species that could otherwise disappear without being described. |
