EtymologyThe specific epithetianwhiteiis a noun in the genitive case and is a patronym for Ian White, a youngamphibian and reptile enthusiast, who together with his family support conservation of the last remnants of cloudforests in the Andes of northern Peru, through the nonprofit organization Rainforest Partnership, headquartered inAustin, Texas, USA. The opportunity to be a patron for these new species of lizards is the latest step in the Whitefamily’s multigenerational commitment to the study and preservation of the natural world, highlighting the specialinterest of this family in these reptiles and the challenges that they and other creatures face due to climate changeand anthropogenic activities.
