DiagnosisDiagnosis: Rhadinaea montecristi differs from all of its congeners save R. hempsteadae and R. serperaster in having 19 scale rows. It differs from these two species in having very heavy lateral and ventrolateral stripes (see fig. 28C). The color pattern of the body is virtually identical with some specimens of R. lachrymans, which differs in having 17 scale rows and pale blotches on the rear of the frontal. (Myers 1974: 143)

CommentHabitat: This snake is found in both disturbed and undisturbed cloud forests in the Lower Montane Moist Forest and Lower Montane Wet Forest formations (after Holdridge 1967) between 1300 and 2620 m elevation (McCranie and Wilson 1991).
