TypesHolotype: NHM 1955.1.11.40, adult female, collected by E. J. Van Inger (Figs 28A– E, 31). Paratypes (3): NHM 1955.1.11.41, adult male, collected in Borama District, Somalia (9.94°N, 43.18°E) by E. J. Van Inger (Fig. 28F–I); NHM 1949.2.2.75 (Fig. 28J–M) and NHM 1949.2.2.80, both adult males, collected at Haud, Somalia (8.95°N, 44.17°E) by R. H. Taylor. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Telescopus crocheti is distinguished from all other species of Telescopus by the combination of the following characters: (1) 19–21 dorsal scales at the anterior body; (2) 21–23 dorsal scales at midbody; (3) 14–15 dorsal scales at the posterior body; (4) two anal scales; (5) two elongated temporal scales, subequal in size and length, or at least subequal in length, elongated; (6) one pair of chin shields; (7) 204–242 (X = 224.3) ventral scales; (8) 65–85 (X = 74.9) subcaudals; (9) 230–240 (X = 236.0) dorsal scales; (10) 13 infralabial scales; (11) four or five (X = 4.2) dorsal scales in contact with parietal scale; (12) presence of an apical pit on each dorsal scale distally; (13) dorsal head similar in colour to the dorsal body (brownish grey); (14) ventral body cream; (15) dorsal body and flanks almost all homogeneous brownish grey.
