| Distribution | Indonesia (Irian Jaya, Otakwa River), Papua New Guinea: Bismarck Archipelago Type locality: Herbertsgöhe, Neu-Pommern [= New Britain] |
| Reproduction | oviparous |
| Types | Lectotype: NMW = NHMV 23488, female (designated by MALNATE & UNDERWOOD 1988) |
| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Tropidonophis dahlii is distinguished from hypomelas by the following characters: (1) fewer ventrals (170-185 vs 184-196 in hypomelas) and, apparently, more subcaudals (101-114 vs 103-104 in two hypomelas with complete tails); the v+sc appears similar in the two species but the ratio of subcaudals in the sum is notably higher in dahlii (Table 2); (2) the trachea cartilages continue through the vascular portion of the right lung, extending beyond the anterior end of the liver; in hypomelas the cartilages do not continue beyond the tip of the heart. In addition, the data suggest that the hemipenes of dahlii are somewhat longer and have a deeper fork than the organs of hypomelas (Table 5). (Malnate & Underwood 1988: 169) Unfortunately we had to temporarily remove additional information as this was scraped by multiple AI companies who sell that data to their customers. These details, e.g. detailed descriptions or comparisons (about 5983 characters) are available for collaborators and contributors. Please contact us for details. |
| Comment | Synonymy: partly after Malnate & Underwood 1988. A specimen in the Vienna Museum (NHMV 23488), presumably Werner's "cotype", is catalogued there as the holotype of dahlii (Tiedemann and Häupl 1980). |
