| Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A medium-sized monitor lizard of the Varanus (Odatria) timorensis species complex characterized by a peculiar color pattern consisting of narrowly arranged ocellar spots tending to form a reticulum on a yellowish-brownish background. Diagnostic is also the following combination of scale counts (see method paragraph above): a low P = 44 – 47 (mean 45); R = 28 – 32 (mean 29.67); S = 96 – 104 (mean = 100.17; the lowest within the entire V. timorensis complex!); N = 62 – 69, mean 65.83), and XY (129 – 147, mean 139) and m values (84 – 97, mean 89), both again the lowest within the V. timorensis complex. Characteristic are also the distinctly keeled and pointed caudal scales as well as slightly keeled dorsal scales (see Fig. 6).
