Comment | Synonymy: Listed as synonym of Gymnodactylus pelagicus pelagicus by WERMUTH 1965: 64 (fide BOULENGER 1885). See also phylogenetics. Distribution: not corrected for removal from synonymy. Not listed by BAUER & VINDUM (1990) for New Caledonia. For a map of allenallisoni see map in Zug 2020: 47 (Fig. 18). For a map of alotau see map in Zug 2020: 53 (Fig. 22), 67 (Fig. 32). Etymology: N. allenallisoni was named after Allen Allison for his contributions to the biology of the New Guinea herpetofauna and his continuing role in the conservation of the Papua New Guinea biota by encouraging and supporting the active involvement of PNG villagers and tribes. The specific name is a noun in apposition. N. alotau was named after the principal mainland town, Alotau, of Milne Bay Province and is used as a noun in apposition. N. robertfisheri was named after Robert N. Fisher for his biological discoveries in Papua New Guinea and throughout the eastern Pacific. The name also acknowledges our friendship and his ever-ready support of my research endeavors in Pacific herpetology. The specific name is a noun in apposition. Sympatry: N. septentrionalis in Aitape, Nuku, Wewak, and Manam Island; N. nanus at Siar Plantation. Phylogenetics: Nactus alotau from around the type locality and including the type specimen clearly sits inside the broader complex of bisexuals comprising of ‘N. multicarinatus’ and ‘N. robertfisheri’, according to Oliver et al. 2024. |
Etymology | Named after Latin multi, many things (pl.); much; many + Latin carinata, keeled, ridged. |
