Diagnosis | Diagnosis (genus): Anterior maxillary and mandibular teeth a little longer than the posterior. Head very small, not distinct from neck; snout covered with shields; nostril pierced in a single nasal. Eye very small, with vertical pupil. Body cylindrical. Scales small, hexagonal, juxtaposed or very feebly imbricate, tri- or quinquecarinate. Tail moderate, feebly prehensile; suboaudals single. Comment | Conservation: May be extinct now (fide Glaw, pers. comm.) Type species: Tortrix pseudoeryx SCHLEGEL 1837 is the type species of the genus Bolyeria GRAY 1842. |
Etymology | Named after Latin multi, many things (pl.); much; many + Latin carinata, keeled, ridged. The etymology of the genus name Bolyeria is unclear. Gray 1842 does not explain the name, nor does he mention any one or any place of the name “Bolyer” |
