Ecomorph class: trunk-ground.

Species group: Ctenonotus cristatellus species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Melville "Mel" Thurston Cook (1869-1952), a botanist and entomologist who became Director, Insular Experiment Station, Rio Piedras, part of Universidad de Puerto Rico: He joined the faculty of Rutgers University (1910) to teach botany and later moved to the New Jersey College for Women (1918).
