Diagnosis 
CommentNorops purpurgularis is closely related to N. pijolense and N. johnmeyeri (N. schiedei group).

EtymologyNamed after Latin purpura, purple color, purple + Latin gularis, pertaining to the throat, neck or gullet. [“...The name purpurgularis is from the Latin words purpureus (purple) and gula (the throat) and the Latin suffix -aris (pertaining to). The name refers to the large, brilliantly colored dewlap of the adult males of this species...”].
