Conservation: one of the 30 most endangered viper species (Maritz et al. 2016).

Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018).

Distribution: see map in Barbo et al. 2022: 149 (Fig. 1). 
EtymologyNamed after the local name of the frigate bird, Fregata magnificens (Pelecaniformes), whose colonies on the Alcatrazes Island give name to the type locality of the new species. The specific epithet is a noun in apposition.
