Type locality: On a road near Cício (= Tzitzio fide Duellman, 1961: 97), ca 1630 m elevation, 17 km south of the Mexico-Guadalajara highway, Michoacán, México.

EtymologyNamed after Latin macula, spot, stain + Latin fero, to bear, carry. [“...Above, grayish to violet brown, the edges of the scales darker...”].
