Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy: Morando et al. (2003) suggested to synonymize Liolaemus ceii with Liolaemus kriegi, which was confirmed by TRONCOSO-PALACIOS et al. 2014. However, some authors, such as Ruiz et al. 2023 recognize ceii as valid species.

Group: Belongs to the Liolaemus elongatus-kriegi group (fide ESPINOZA et al. 2000 and AVILA et al. 2003). See entry of Liolaemus punmahuida for differential diagnosis. For a phylogenetic analysis of the L. kriegi complex see Medina et al. 2018. According to Troncoso-Palacios & Ramírez-Álvarez (2021) the kriegi group includes L. buergeri, kriegi, tregenzai, and zabalai.

Distribution: not in Chile fide D. Pincheira-Donoso, pers. comm., 23 May 2017). Not listed as valid member of Chilean Liolaemus by Demangel 2016, although it was reported from Chile (Curico, Chubut, Rio Negro [HR 32: 65]).

LOBO (2001) suggests the following monophyletic species groups within Liolaemus: alticolor, altissimus, gravenhorstii, hellmichi, kriegi, leopardinus, monticola, nigromaculatus, nigroviridis, pictus and tenuis.

NCBI tax ID: 109442 [ceii]
EtymologyNamed after Professor Dr. Hans Krieg (1888-1970), German physician, ethnographer, anthropologist, and zoologist. He was Director, Zoological Gardens, Munich (1927-1945). He travelled to South America several times between 1925 to 1938.
