Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A medium-sized species (760 mm. in length); bodily configuration similar to cyclurus; eight supralabials; a subocular and a preocular present; scales smooth in 17 rows at middle of body, 15 shortly behind middle; ventrals feebly angulate; dark purplish brown with strong black reticulations forming more or less distinct but broken crossbars, each alternate one with a transversely placed black spot; venter red in life, heavily marked with rectangular black spots; a narrow chevron terminating on head; a crescent spot across eyes and snout; two temporal bars. Ventrals, 187-197; subcaudals, 40-50. Comment | Distribution: Erroneously reported from Vietnam and China. Specimens from Guangxi are likely to be O. nagao. Synonymy: partly after JIANG et al. 2012. Illustration: in CHAN-ARD et al. 2015, although the drawings of Oligodon joynsoni and O. taeniatus have been mixed up (fide PAUWELS & GRISMER 2015). |
