Distribution	Thailand (Nong Khai Province) Type locality: Thailand, Nong Khai Province, Boong Klar District, Phu Wua Wildlife Sanctuary, at marker 027 on footpath to Lad Phleuy Waterfall, 18° 14’ 31.0’’ N, 103° 57’ 44.5’’ E, 190 m elevation.

Types	Holotype: THNHM 05343/FMNH 265798, adult male
Diagnosis
Comment	Habitat: aquatic, inhabiting flowing streams. Diet: fishes, frogs, tadpoles, freshwater shrimp and earthworms. Behavior: nocturnal Distribution: not in Vietnam, despite recent reports from there, which actually represent Opisthotropis haihaensis (fide Ziegler et al. 2019). Populations from S China (Guangdong, Guangxi) have been re-described as O. hungtai.
Etymology	from Latin “maculosus” = spotted, referring to the distinctive dorsal pattern.
