CommentSynonymy: Henicognathus Sumichrasti BOCOURT 1886 has priority over Ablabes chinensis but has been officially suppressed in ICZN Opion 744 in 1965. Guibé & Roux-Esteve 1963 showed that Sumichrasti is a synonym of Ablabes chinensis and thus Smith 1963 suggested to suppress or rather reject the name (hence a nomen rejiciendum fide Wallach et al. 2014). The nomenclatural history of sumichrasti is more convoluted though with Taylor & Smith (1943) considering it as “ a synonym of the Asian Sibynophis collaris” and Savage and Slowinski 1996 stating that Henicognathus Sumichrasti is a synonym of Sibynophis geminatus.
EtymologyNamed after its distribution in China.
