Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Slender, small Trimeresurus, up to 642 mm (SVL males is up to 521 mm, Lcd — 121 mm) with very hard, thin and almost round body. V — 166 – 175; Scd — 65 – 69 pairs; anal plate is entire. Scale rows oblique, rhomboid, strongly keeled, only first row of dorsal scales has hardly noticeable keels; Sq2 — 21, Sq3 — 15 rows. The head is small, triangular, clearly distinct from the neck, covered by small, strongly granulated shields on the upper surface backwards from the line between eyes, shields are relatively flat from snout to eyes. Supralabials — 9–10, Infralabials — 11–12; the first supralabial is clearly divided from large N; the rostral shield forms isosceles triangle with truncated top; SO — 1, very large; SubO — 1, thin and long; symphisial relatively large, triangular; anterior genial shields very large and wide, posterior genial shields small. Hemipenis relatively short (to 7th Scd) with large and small spines, forked. The dorsal coloration of the body and the head of males is greenish-blue, in females — light-brown. Across body and tail pass 66 — 70 red-brown bands; red-brown spots on the head form mosaic pattern. The belly is gray-bluish. Comment | Venomous! Characteristic features. Slender, small pitviper, with small, triangular head; 11 supralabials, with first supralabial clearly divided from large nasal; 13 infralabials, 167 ventrals, anal scale entire, 61 divided subcaudals, and 21 (dorsally keeled) scales across the midbody; about 72 dark bands on dorsum of neck, body and tail (from ZIEGLER et al. 2006). Habitat: partly arboreal (Harrington et al. 2018). |
Etymology | Named after the mountain range Truong Son (= Annamite mountains) where the species occurs. |
